Projection

Projection

Multiview drawings within this course are third angle projection. First angle projection can be used without prejudice to the principles established.

Orthographic projection is a method for drawing an 3D object in a systematic way to show the primary plans and elevations of the object. Typically a front, side and top view are projected in a direction parallel to the main coordinate axes onto on a 2D plane.

There are two ways of drawing an orthographic projection – First Angle and Third Angle. They differ only in the position of the top, front and side views. Generally, First Angle Projection is used in all countries other than United States.
